YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program: Turning Your Global Audiences Into New Revenue
At Linguana, our goal has always been bigger than simply translating content. We build and grow localized channels around the world, and then look for every opportunity to help those channels reach new audiences and generate additional revenue.
One of the newest opportunities we're rolling out across our network is the YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program.
YouTube Shopping allows eligible creators to tag products directly within their videos, Shorts and livestreams. Viewers can discover the products featured in the content and click through to purchase them from participating retailers, while creators can earn a commission on qualifying sales.
For Linguana creators, this creates another potential revenue stream from the global audiences they are already building.
From views to purchases
YouTube has long enabled creators to monetize their audiences through advertising. Shopping adds another layer, and the YouTube Shopping Affiliate program makes it accessible to all without needing to run your own online store.
Imagine a DIY channel demonstrating a particular tool, a fishing creator using a piece of equipment, or a health and fitness creator featuring an exercise product.
Instead of simply showing that product, an eligible channel can tag it through the YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program, allowing interested viewers to instantly purchase it.
If a viewer clicks a tagged product and completes a purchase, the creator earns a commission. Commission rates vary by retailer and product, with all the information about participating retailers and commission rates shown inside YouTube Studio.
This means that the same video can potentially generate revenue in multiple ways: through YouTube Partner Program payouts for AdSense, from brand deals, and through affiliate commissions when that viewer goes on to shop.
And because videos can continue generating views for months or even years, shopping also has the potential to add incremental monetization to a creator's existing content library.

YouTube Shopping is going global
YouTube has been rapidly expanding the Shopping Affiliate Program internationally.
As of September 2026, YouTube lists the program as available to eligible creators based in Argentina, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam.
That's particularly exciting for Linguana because many of these are markets where we already operate localized channels at scale.
The retailer ecosystem is expanding too.
In the United States, YouTube Shopping already works with a large range of retailers and brands, including Target, Home Depot, Lowe's, Sephora, Etsy, LEGO, Samsung, Logitech and many more.
And in August 2026, YouTube announced a major addition: Amazon officially joined the YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program, enabling eligible US creators to tag Amazon products directly in Shorts, long-form videos and livestreams.
In Latin America, YouTube has partnered with Mercado Libre to bring the Shopping Affiliate Program to Mexico, Brazil and Argentina, connecting creators with one of the region's biggest ecommerce ecosystems.
Across markets including Southeast Asia, Korea and Japan, YouTube continues to build out its network of participating merchants and ecommerce partners, creating an increasingly broad range of products that creators can feature.
For a global creator network like Linguana, that's where things get particularly interesting.
One creator. Many markets. Many shopping opportunities.
Each channel in eligible countries needs the right product to be tagged from the available retailers in that country. Sometimes we can link to the exact same product. But in other cases, we need to find the closest alternative.
That's why we're approaching YouTube Shopping in the same way we approach localization generally: market by market.
We're beginning to test relevant products across eligible Linguana channels, linking viewers to products featured in the videos from popular ecommerce retailers available in their market.
A creator might therefore have one product strategy for their US channel, another for Brazil, another for Mexico and another for Indonesia and the Philippines.
The content remains at the center. The commerce opportunity is localized around it.
What makes a channel eligible?
YouTube currently requires creators to meet several criteria before they can join the Shopping Affiliate Program.
Among the key requirements, the channel must:
- Be part of the YouTube Partner Program (YPP)
- Meet the applicable YPP subscriber threshold, which YouTube has recently reduced to as few as 500 subscribers for eligible creators
- Be based in a country where the Affiliate Program is available
- Not be a music channel, Official Artist Channel or associated with certain music partners
- Not be designated Made for Kids or have a significant proportion of Made for Kids content
Eligibility can vary for pilots and new market launches, and YouTube continues to expand and update the program.
For Linguana partners, we've identified where YouTube Shopping is available and where we can begin rolling it out across our global channels.
Finding the right products for every video
Our approach isn't simply to attach random products to videos.
The opportunity becomes much more interesting when there is a natural connection between the content and something the viewer might genuinely want to buy.
A physiotherapy video could feature the equipment being used so that the viewer can try it out at home. A cooking video could feature cookware, kitchen equipment or even the key ingredients. A technology video could link directly to the devices or accessories being discussed.
This also aligns with YouTube's own guidelines, which require tagged products to be meaningfully related to the content and clearly featured or referenced within it.
We've therefore been applying it on videos where there is a strong relationship between content, product and audience intent, and testing which combinations generate the most clicks and sales.

Going beyond product tags
We're also exploring ways to make these recommendations more visible.
For selected videos and products, we may test inserting very short product integrations that are typically 15 seconds or less into localized videos.
These could briefly show or mention a relevant product and encourage interested viewers to click the YouTube Shopping product link.
The goal isn't to turn videos into commercials. It's to take products that already make sense in the context of the content and make the opportunity to purchase them clearer.
We're testing different approaches across creators, languages, categories and markets to understand what drives engagement without disrupting the viewing experience.
Where content constitutes a paid promotion or endorsement, the appropriate YouTube disclosure requirements will of course apply.
The purchase can be worth more than the product you featured
There's another interesting aspect of affiliate commerce: the item that attracts the click isn't necessarily the only item that can generate revenue.
Depending on the retailer's affiliate terms and attribution rules, a viewer may click through after seeing a product featured in a video and then purchase additional eligible items during the retailer's attribution window.
That means the value of the referral can extend beyond the individual product being promoted.
A viewer might click through to look at a $20 product and ultimately place a much larger order. Where those additional purchases qualify under the retailer's affiliate terms, they can generate additional commission too.
Each participating retailer sets its own commission rates and attribution rules, so the exact economics vary between merchants and markets.

Another revenue stream for your global channels
This is still an emerging opportunity, and we're going to learn a lot as we scale it.
Which products generate the most clicks? Which categories convert best? How does performance differ between countries? Which videos have the strongest commercial intent? Can short product integrations meaningfully increase conversion?
We're already testing these questions across eligible Linguana channels and will use the results to continually improve how we select, feature and promote products.
The bigger picture is simple.
When Linguana launches a localized channel, we're not only creating another place for your content to be watched. We're building another audience, and another digital asset that can generate revenue in multiple ways.
Advertising. Sponsorships. Distribution. And now commerce.
As YouTube Shopping expands into more countries, retailers and product categories, we believe it can become another meaningful part of how Linguana helps creators monetize their audiences around the world.
